The pigeon conditioner is aimed specifically at fanciers preparing birds for breeding or racing condition rather than a general pet bird.

Single ingredients like hempseed and peanuts are best used as a supplement to a proper mix rather than a main feed on their own, since a complete mix is balanced for a bird's full nutritional needs in a way a single seed is not.

If you are just starting out with a particular species, the dedicated mix for that bird is a more reliable starting point than trying to build a diet from individual seeds, and you can always add extras like hempseed once you know your bird is settled on its main feed.
