Outfits are for supervised wear only. Nothing should restrict breathing, sight, hearing or movement, and nothing small enough to chew off should be within reach. Christmas adds two hazards Halloween does not: bells and tinsel trim, both of which get swallowed.
Plenty of animals simply will not wear clothing, and forcing it is not worth the photograph. A festive bandana gets you the same picture with none of the stress — which is why bandanas sit alongside the costumes on this page rather than below them.
A knitted jumper is for outside. On Christmas Day, with the oven on and the house full of people, a dog in knitwear gets uncomfortably warm long before anyone notices. Take it off once you are back through the door.
