Antlers versus a costume
Antler headbands photograph brilliantly and stay on for about as long as it takes to press the shutter. They are the least intrusive option here, but they are also the easiest to shake off and chew — so they are a supervised prop, not something to leave on a dog wandering round the house.
A hooded cape or a fleece-lined outfit is the better choice if you want the look to last through a walk. It fastens at the chest, sits where a harness sits, and adds real warmth rather than just a silhouette.
Hoods block more than you realise

Is it safe to put my pet in a Christmas outfit?
For short, supervised periods, yes. Nothing should restrict breathing, sight, hearing or movement, nothing small enough to chew off should be within reach, and it should never be left on an unattended pet. Christmas outfits add two hazards Halloween ones do not: bells and tinsel trim, both of which are swallowable. If your pet freezes, flattens their ears or tries to back out of it, take it off.
How do I get the size right?
Measure three things while your pet is standing: neck circumference, chest at the widest point just behind the front legs, and back length from the collar to the base of the tail. Chest decides the size — if your pet is between sizes, go up. Knitwear has less give than people expect once it is over the shoulders.
Will antlers stay on a dog with floppy ears?
Less well than on a pricked-ear breed — the band has less to grip. Sit the band behind the ears rather than in front of them, and accept that a spaniel or a cocker will shake it off sooner than a terrier will.
Are these warm enough for a winter walk?
