Size guide & how to measure

Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.

How to measure

Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

Size	Typical back length	Typical chest
XS	20–25 cm	30–40 cm
S	25–32 cm	38–50 cm
M	32–40 cm	48–62 cm
L	40–50 cm	60–76 cm
XL	50–60 cm	74–92 cm

Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.

Full description

Most Christmas pet costumes are a single layer of thin novelty fabric that leaves the animal colder than they started. This one is fleece-lined, which is the difference between an outfit a dog will happily sit in all afternoon and one that comes off after two photographs. The reindeer detail sits across the back, and the cut is two-leg, so only the front legs go through.

The shell is polyester with a brushed fleece backing, and the sizing is done properly — by chest girth in centimetres, with an indicative weight range alongside it. Girth is the measurement that decides whether a garment fits, because it is the ribcage that has to pass through, not the number on the scales. Take the tape around the widest part of the chest just behind the front legs, snug but not tight.

XS: 30cm chest, suits pets 0.5-1.5kg
S: 35cm chest, 1.5-2.5kg
M: 40cm chest, 2.5-4kg
L: 45cm chest, 4-6kg
XL: 50cm chest, 6-8kg
XXL: 58cm chest, 8-11kg
Polyester outer with a fleece lining

Two things worth knowing. Even a comfortable costume is for short supervised periods — never leave a dog or cat dressed and unattended, and take it off the moment they start trying to get out of it. And the range tops out at an 11kg pet, so this is small-dog and cat clothing; a Labrador is nowhere near the largest size.

Who it's for: Bichons, Corgis, French Bulldogs, Pomeranians and cats who tolerate being dressed, for Christmas morning and the family photograph.

Why we chose it

Fleece-lined rather than a single layer of novelty fabric, which is why a dog will sit in it rather than shrug it off after two photographs. Sized on chest girth in centimetres. Tops out at 11kg - small dogs and cats only.
