Chest: measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
The maker recommends going by chest circumference rather than weight.

Measurements are the manufacturer's own figures. Weight is printed in Chinese catties (1 catty = 0.5 kg), so 1-3 catties is roughly 0.5-1.5 kg and 15-20 catties is roughly 7.5-10 kg. The maker adds: "Weight is for reference only. It is recommended to measure chest circumference. It is normal for manual measurement to have a 2-3cm error." If between sizes, size up.

A knitted jumper is a layer, not a coat, and the difference is the whole story on a wet December morning. Knit holds warmth beautifully in dry cold, on a frosty walk, in a draughty house, or on an old dog who has started sitting closer to the radiator than they used to. It also soaks straight through in rain. Bought with that understood, this is a genuinely useful winter layer for a small dog.

The pattern is proper Fair Isle work in navy and cream, reindeer and snowflakes, finished with a snug hood and a pom-pom on top. It pulls on over the head, which is far and away the easiest thing to get onto a wriggling small dog, and there are six sizes from XS to XXL. The garment weighs between 70g and 190g depending on the size, which tells you plainly and without any marketing how light a layer this is.
