Christmas Dog Bandanas

A bandana is the answer for the many dogs who will not tolerate a costume. It ties at the neck, sits flat across the shoulders, does not go over the head, and comes off in one pull — so you get the Christmas photograph without spending the morning negotiating.

Why a bandana beats a costume for most dogs

Dogs tolerate something lying across the back far better than anything that goes over the head or wraps around the legs. A bandana asks almost nothing of them: no sleeves, no hood, nothing to reverse out of. If your dog has never worn clothing, this is the place to start rather than a full outfit on Christmas morning.

It is also the only festive item that works in a warm house. A knitted jumper on a dog sitting next to a radiator all afternoon is uncomfortable, and most will take themselves off somewhere cooler rather than put up with it.

Tie it loose, and check it after

Two fingers should slide easily between the knot and the neck. A bandana tied to stay put through a walk is tied too tight, and cotton shrinks slightly after the first wash.

Take it off before your dog is left alone. A trailing corner is exactly the sort of thing that catches on a crate door or a stair gate, and a bandana is not worth supervising.

Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.

Common questions

How do I get the size right?

Measure three things while your pet is standing: neck circumference, chest at the widest point just behind the front legs, and back length from the collar to the base of the tail. Chest decides the size — if your pet is between sizes, go up. Knitwear has less give than people expect once it is over the shoulders.

Will it fit a cat?

Several here are sized for cats and small dogs, and the tie fastening adjusts further than a collar-slide design does. Cats are far less tolerant of anything around the neck than dogs, so put it on for the photograph and take it off afterwards.

Can they wear it over a collar or harness?

Yes, and it is the better way round — tie the bandana over the collar so the lead still clips to the collar itself. Never clip a lead to anything on the bandana.

Will it arrive in time for Christmas?

Every product page shows its own last order date rather than one date for the whole shop, because transit times differ across the range. Order well before the middle of December — the last two weeks are the worst time of year to rely on a tight delivery estimate.
