The trouble with a tie-on bandana is the knot. Too loose and it swings under the chin all afternoon; too tight and nobody is comfortable. This one is built around an adjustable collar band instead, with a published neck range for every size, so it goes on in a second, stays where you put it, and comes off just as quickly once the photographs are done.

The fabric is linen, printed with a geometric pattern rather than the usual cartoon Santa, which is why it does not look ridiculous in January. Linen is a shade stiffer than cotton, so the triangle sits and holds its shape instead of collapsing into a rag against the chest, and it softens with each wash. The four sizes cover a lot of ground: extra small is genuinely small at a 14 to 20cm neck, while large will sit on a 50cm one.

• XS: 6cm high, 10cm wide, fits a 14-20cm neck
• S: 9cm high, 15.5cm wide, fits a 20-30cm neck
• M: 12cm high, 20cm wide, fits a 27-43cm neck
• L: 16cm high, 26cm wide, fits a 33-50cm neck
• Linen with a printed geometric pattern
• Collar band 1cm wide on XS and S, 1.5cm on M, 2cm on L
• Supplied as one triangle scarf

On fit and safety. Adjust it so two fingers slide flat between the band and the neck — no looser, or a cat will lift it over her ears. This is a decorative band, not a safety collar with a quick-release buckle, so take it off before a cat goes outdoors and off any pet left alone. The measurements are taken by hand, so allow 2-3cm either way.

Who it's for: Cats, kittens and small dogs whose necks most bandanas swamp, and anyone who would rather fasten a band than tie a knot every time.
