Sizing by weight is unusual for a bandana and rather more useful than the usual small, medium and large: the small is cut for pets under 10kg, the large for anything from 10kg up to 50kg. You already know what your dog weighs from the last trip to the vet, which makes this one of the very few festive accessories you can order confidently without hunting for the tape measure first.

It is cotton, printed rather than woven, in four designs — two versions of a Santa, one on a green ground and one on wine red, a white checked gift print, and white deer on red. Cotton is the fabric to pick if the bandana will sit under the chin of a dog who drools or drinks messily, because it absorbs rather than repels and washes out properly at forty degrees. It creases in the drawer and it will soften and fade a little over the years; that is the honest trade.

• Cotton, printed
• Small size for pets up to 10kg
• Large size for pets from 10kg to 50kg
• Four designs: Santa on green, Santa on wine red, white checked gift, white deer on red
• Shipping weight 8g to 16g
• Supplied as one triangle scarf

Two things worth knowing. The weight bands are broad — a 12kg spaniel and a 45kg mastiff both take the large — so if your dog sits at either end of that range, send us his neck measurement and we will tell you honestly how it will hang. And the maker's own colour list skips a letter, jumping from B straight to D: there are four designs, not five.

Who it's for: Owners who know their pet's weight but not their neck measurement, and anyone wanting a washable cotton bandana for a dog who drools.
