A Bourke's parakeet is a genuinely small bird, and a mix built around the bigger seeds some cage bird blends favour can simply be too much for a beak that size to manage comfortably.

Bucktons build this from yellow millet, wheat, oats, red millet, naked oats, canary seed, small dark stripe sunflower seeds, linseed, safflower seed, hempseed, buckwheat and oil. Bucktons describe it as an ideal blend of small millet and oil seeds specifically, rather than a general cage bird mix scaled down — the sunflower seed itself is the small dark stripe variety rather than a larger type.

• Blend of small millet and oil seeds
• Yellow millet, wheat, oats, red millet, naked oats, canary seed, small dark stripe sunflower seeds, linseed, safflower seed, hempseed and buckwheat
• Suitable for small parakeets such as Bourke's, cockatiels and lovebirds
• 20KG sack

One thing worth knowing. No protein or fat analysis is published for this mix, so beyond "small millet and oil seeds," there isn't a nutritional figure on the card to compare it against another blend.

Who it's for: owners of small parakeets, cockatiels or lovebirds who want seeds genuinely sized for a smaller beak, rather than a general-purpose cage bird mix.
