A finch weighing under 10 grams needs its food measured in single grams, not scoops, which is the opposite problem to a bigger bird and one a lot of seed mixes are not really built around.

This is Beaphar's XtraVital Exotic Bird food, described as complete for birds such as Zebra finch, Society finch, Gouldian finch and Java sparrow, led by seeds at 45.75% millet with a small proportion of dried echinacea (0.6%) and egg derivatives (0.14%). Beaphar's feeding guide is banded by the bird's own weight: 3-5g over 24 hours for a 5-10g bird, rising to 5-10g over 24 hours for a 10-20g bird.

• Complete food for small exotic birds (finches, Java sparrow), per Beaphar
• Seeds including 45.75% millet
• Echinacea at 0.6%, egg derivatives at 0.14%
• Crude protein 14.4%, fat 7.3%, fibre 6.5%, ash 4.2%
• 500G bag

On the weight bands. Beaphar band the daily amount by the bird's own weight rather than by species — 3-5g for a bird weighing 5-10g, 5-10g for one weighing 10-20g — so weighing an individual bird, particularly a young or unusually small one, gives a more accurate figure than assuming from the species alone.

Who it's for: keepers of small exotic finches and similar birds wanting a complete, formulated food rather than a plain seed mix.
