Specifications

Brand: Bucktons

Full description

Robins and many songbirds eat far more insects and soft fruit in the wild than they do hard seed, which is a mismatch a straight sunflower-and-peanut mix doesn't solve — a blend that actually includes insects and berries is trying to match the diet rather than just filling a feeder.

This is Bucktons Robin & Songbird, a 12.55KG bag made from kibbled maize, pinhead oatmeal, red millet, naked oats, kibbled sunflower hearts, kibbled peanuts, sultanas, suet pellets, berries and mealworms. Bucktons describe it as designed to replicate the natural dietary preferences of robins and songbirds, and it's stated as suitable for feeding either in ground feeders or on a table, and for all-year-round use.

What's missing from this one. No protein, fat or fibre percentage is given for this blend, so we can't provide a nutritional analysis beyond the ingredient list — the design brief here is matching a natural diet, not hitting a specific nutrient target on paper.

Who it's for: anyone feeding robins and other songbirds who wants a mix that includes insects and berries rather than a sunflower-and-peanut mix built for bigger seed-eating birds.

Bucktons Robin & Songbird

Why we chose it

Robins in particular are ground feeders that eat more insects than seed, so a mix that actually contains mealworms and berries suits them better than a generic seed blend left on a table. It's also a large 12.55KG bag, which suits topping up a feeder regularly through the year.
