Specifications

Material: 100% recyclable
Brand: Peckish

Full description

A seed mix that still carries its husks leaves half the packet on the patio rather than in a beak, which is the ordinary source of most bird-feeding mess and most of the sweeping up that follows it.

Peckish's Complete Seed Mix has had the husks removed before packing, so what goes down is what gets eaten rather than swept up. It also carries Peckish's own Calvita Vitamin Pellet, described as a blend of vitamins and minerals added to the mix, and comes in a 1.7KG bag for topping up a feeder or bird table.

On the ingredients. Peckish describe this mix two different ways in their own materials — as built from 14 ingredients in one place, and as a "12 seed blend" in another. We can't reconcile the two figures, so we're passing both on rather than picking the one that sounds better.

Who it's for: anyone feeding a wide range of garden birds who wants a mix that leaves less on the ground afterwards than an unhusked one would.

Peckish Complete Seed

Why we chose it

The husk-free formula is the practical reason to stock this one. It means less waste under the feeder, and it suits birds that struggle with a husk more easily than a plain mixed seed does.
