Racing pigeon keepers do not feed one mix all year round — a bird raising squeakers in spring has a completely different energy need to one resting through winter, so a feed sold for a specific window of the year is doing a job a generic pigeon mix cannot.

This is Bucktons' young bird formulation, built for the March to September feeding period and aimed at weaning and racing birds specifically rather than the loft in general. The mix itself is a blend of wheat, maple peas, red dari, white peas, white dari, blue peas, tares and safflower seed — a spread of grains and legumes rather than a single cereal, which is the usual shape of a pigeon corn mix. Bucktons describe it as developed for easy digestion, aimed at a bird building condition through the breeding season rather than one being rested.

• Feeding window: March to September
• Suitable for weaning and racing birds
• Wheat, maple peas, red dari, white peas, white dari, blue peas, tares and safflower seed
• Formulated for easy digestion
• 20KG sack

One thing worth knowing. Bucktons don't publish a protein or fat analysis for this mix, so if you're comparing it against a high-protein racing formula on paper, there isn't a number here to weigh it against — you're going on the ingredient list and the stated feeding window rather than an analytical panel.

Who it's for: pigeon keepers feeding through the March to September season who want a mix aimed specifically at weaning and racing birds, rather than a resting or winter formulation.
