A show bird is judged on condition as much as anything, which is why breeders tend to reach for a different seed mix than the one they feed a garden aviary the rest of the year. Bucktons pitch this Budgie Tonic specifically at show birds, built on a base of yellow millet, naked oats, red millet and panicum millet.

The mix also includes black rapeseed, linseed, nyjer seed and Japanese millet, finished with orange oil for aroma. Bucktons describe it as supporting breeding and moult, though no protein or fat percentage is published to back that up numerically — it is sold on ingredient variety and the orange scent rather than an analysis panel. It contains grains and is not a grain-free mix.

On the breeding claim. No protein or fat percentage is published for this mix, so the "supports breeding and moult" description cannot be checked against a number — take it as a general seed-variety claim rather than a formulated, analysed diet. If you need a nutritionally verified breeding diet, ask your vet or an avian specialist which figures to look for.

Who it's for: budgie breeders and show-bird keepers who want the traditional grain-and-oilseed variety associated with breeding condition, rather than a plain single-grain mix.
