A parrot given a big bowl of mixed seed will often eat its favourites first and leave the rest, which is the standing criticism of seed-only diets — worth knowing before it becomes the only thing your bird eats.

This mix combines striped and white sunflower seeds, whole maize, whole oats, small dark striped sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, redskin peanuts, black sunflower seeds, mung beans, hempseed, peanuts in shell, yellow biscuit, papaya, banana chips and chillies — a broad variety by design, aimed at a wide range of parrot species.

• Wide seed and nut variety: sunflower seeds, maize, oats, safflower, peanuts, mung beans, hempseed and more
• Contains whole maize and oats, so not grain-free
• Includes dried fruit pieces: banana chips, papaya
• Designed for a wide variety of parrots
• 12.75kg bag

What the label does not say. Bucktons have not given a protein, fat or fibre breakdown for this mix, and there is nothing on the card about selective feeding — the well-known risk with any loose seed mix is a bird picking out the sunflower and peanut pieces and leaving the rest, which this product does nothing on its own to prevent.

Who it's for: parrot keepers wanting a varied, large-bag seed mix as part of a wider diet, rather than owners looking for a single complete food.
