What Johnston & Jeff make
The range covers straightforward wild bird seed products, from single-ingredient options like sunflower hearts through to blended mixes aimed at attracting a wider variety of garden birds. Sunflower hearts in particular are popular because they have no husk for birds to discard, which means less mess under a feeder than whole sunflower seed.
Different mixes suit different birds and different times of year, so it is worth thinking about what you actually want to attract, and when, rather than picking one product to cover every situation.
What we stock, and choosing between mixes
Our range includes Johnston Jeff Sunflower Hearts alongside other items from the wider wild bird food and cage bird food shelves, all packed and posted by hand. What is shown in the grid above is what we currently have available to order.
A single-ingredient product like sunflower hearts is a reliable everyday choice that suits a broad range of garden birds, while a blended mix can add variety for a garden that already sees a good range of visitors. Keeping feeders clean and topped up matters as much as which specific mix you choose.
Feeding responsibly through the year
Demand from garden birds rises sharply in winter, when natural food is scarcer, and again in spring when adults are feeding chicks, so keeping feeders topped up consistently through both periods makes a real difference to the birds that rely on them. A pause in feeding during a spell of bad weather can leave visiting birds short at the worst possible time.
Position feeders away from places cats can easily reach, and clean them regularly with fresh water, since dirty feeders and stagnant water can spread disease between the birds visiting them.
