Small finches have small beaks, and a mix full of larger seeds meant for a bigger bird is a mix a finch will pick through rather than actually eat properly — which is why this one is built around a seed genuinely small enough for them to manage.

Johnston & Jeff's Foreign Finch Seed contains panicum, white millet seed, canary seed and vegetable oil, with panicum millet making up around half the mix. The maker describes panicum's small seed size as the reason it suits small tropical finches particularly well, and the blend overall as highly nutritious.

• 1KG bag
• Panicum, white millet, canary seed, vegetable oil
• Around 50% panicum millet
• Small seed size, suited to small tropical finches

The unanswered bit. No protein, fat or fibre percentage is published for this mix, and no specific feeding rate — a finch seed dish is typically kept topped up rather than measured, but there's no precise analysis here if you want one.

Who it's for: owners of small tropical finches who need a mix with a genuinely small seed size, rather than a general cage-bird mix built for larger beaks.
