A parrot that spends most of the day on a perch rather than flying long distances doesn't need the same energy density as one working harder, which is the reasoning behind a "lean and fit" blend built for lower energy needs rather than growth or breeding condition.

Johnston & Jeff describe this as a specially developed recipe with no sunflower and no nuts, built from 24 different ingredients for variety in colour, size, shape, texture and taste, aimed at keeping a parrot occupied while it feeds. Beyond that description, no ingredient list, percentage breakdown or analytical figures have been supplied to us.

• No sunflower, no nuts in the recipe
• 24 different ingredients for variety
• Marketed as low fat, for a maintenance diet
• Sold in a 12.75KG sack

What's not on the card. Johnston & Jeff have not supplied us with the actual ingredient list, a protein or fat percentage, or an analytical breakdown for this blend — only the marketing description above — so we can tell you what it's positioned for but not the numbers behind it. The maker's own note leaves it to the keeper's discretion whether to offer nuts separately as an extra treat or training aid; this blend itself doesn't contain any.

Who it's for: owners of a less active parrot on a maintenance diet who want a nut-free and sunflower-free mix, bought in the larger 12.75kg sack.
