Dry Cat Food

Little things. Happy cats.

Dry food is easy to store, simple to measure and keeps well in a bowl through the day. Choose a complete food for your cat’s life stage first, then narrow it down by need: light for a cat carrying extra weight, hairball control for long coats, or a single-protein recipe for a sensitive stomach.

Our quick picks

In-stock options for different needs, with the practical reason we would choose each one.

  • James Wellbeloved Grain Free Adult Dry Cat Food Turkey

    Best grain-free adult recipe

James Wellbeloved Grain Free Adult Dry Cat Food Turkey

    Why we picked it

It lets us offer a genuinely grain-free option in turkey rather than only in chicken or fish, which matters if a cat has already been narrowed down to one acceptable protein. The lower protein figure compared to the rest of the range is worth knowing before you buy it, not after.

  • One Purina One Light Cat Chicken

    Best for weight control

One Purina One Light Cat Chicken

    Why we picked it

Light ranges are one of the few food categories where the actual fat percentage matters more than the marketing, and 9.5% here is a real step down from a standard adult recipe rather than a token gesture. It's also a complete food, so it does the whole job rather than being one part of a mixed feeding plan.

  • Simpsons Cat 90 10 Meat Fish

    Best high-meat recipe

Simpsons Cat 90 10 Meat Fish

    Why we picked it

A genuine 41% protein figure built from real named sources, rather than propped up with vegetable protein extract, is worth the price difference over a standard dry food. It suits a cat that's shown no food sensitivities and simply does better on a meat-forward diet.

A little guidance

Which dry cat food fits your cat?

Your catStart withWhy
Under a year oldA complete kitten foodGrowing kittens need more energy and nutrients for each kilogram they weigh than adults do.
A healthy adultA complete adult recipeIt is balanced for maintenance, and you can choose the protein your cat prefers.
Carrying extra weightA light or indoor recipeFewer calories per bowl makes portion control easier.
Aged seven or overA senior recipeThese are adjusted for older cats, who are often less active.

Look for the word “complete” on the pack

A complete food is made to be the whole diet. A complementary food, such as many toppers and treats, is not. If dry food is your cat’s main meal, the pack should say it is complete for their life stage.

Cats are obligate carnivores: they need nutrients such as taurine that come from animal protein. Every complete cat food is made to supply them, which is one reason a dog food is never a safe substitute.

Water matters more with dry food

Dry food holds very little moisture, so a cat on a mostly dry diet has to drink more. Keep fresh water away from the food bowl, and think about a fountain if your cat prefers running water.

Many owners feed some wet food alongside dry to add moisture. If you mix the two, cut both portions so the total stays within the day’s allowance.

Weigh the daily portion

The feeding guide is a starting point for your cat’s ideal weight, not their current weight. Use a scale instead of a scoop, because small differences in a cup add up over a month.

If you leave food out for grazing, put down the measured day’s amount in the morning and nothing more. Puzzle feeders slow down cats who eat too fast and give indoor cats something to do.

Change food gradually

Moving to a new food over seven to ten days, mixing a little more of the new one in each day, lowers the chance of an upset stomach. A cat that refuses a new food is common, so a small bag first is often the better buy.

Store dry food in its original bag, rolled shut or placed inside an airtight tub. The bag keeps the batch details and best-before date to hand if you ever need them.

Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.

Common questions

Is dry food alone enough for a cat?

A complete dry food supplies everything a cat needs as long as fresh water is always there. Many owners add some wet food for extra moisture.

How much dry food should I feed my cat?

Follow the pack guide for your cat’s ideal weight, weigh the portion and adjust it if their body shape changes.

Can I mix wet and dry cat food?

Yes. Reduce both portions so the day’s total stays within the guide, and serve wet food fresh rather than leaving it out.
