Fish Food & Aquarium Supplies
Clear water. Happy fish.
Healthy fish come down to two things: the right food in small amounts, and clean, stable water. Choose a food for your fish, whether flakes for tropical or coldwater fish, sinking pellets for bottom feeders or sticks for the pond. Then keep on top of the tank with the right cleaning kit.
Our quick picks
In-stock options for different needs, with the practical reason we would choose each one.

Best pond food
Tetra Pond Fish Food Pellets
Why we picked it
We chose this Tetra pond pellet family because it distinguishes mini and standard floating formats while keeping both as complete foods. The shared analysis and clear feeding directions give shoppers useful facts for comparing the two options.

Best tank cleaning tool
Marina Gravel Cleaner
Why we picked it
The gravel guard is the one feature that actually saves time and mess on this job, and it's worth paying attention to on any gravel cleaner regardless of brand. The Mini size is also genuinely useful for smaller tanks, where a full-size cleaner is often just too unwieldy to manoeuvre.

Best aquarium gravel
Pettex Aquatic Roman Gravel Natural Lakeland
Why we picked it
It's the muted, natural-toned option in a range that leans bright, which is what most fishkeepers actually ask for once the tank is planted up. Doubling as a planting substrate means it isn't just decorative.

A little guidance
Which fish food?
| Fish | Food | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Goldfish | Goldfish flakes or pellets | Coldwater food is made for their lower temperature. |
| Tropical community fish | Tropical flakes or micro pellets | Small pieces suit small mouths. |
| Bottom feeders | Sinking pellets or wafers | They may not reach food that floats. |
| Pond fish and koi | Floating pond sticks or pellets | Feed less as the water cools. |
Feed little and often
Give only what your fish eat in a couple of minutes, once or twice a day. Uneaten food rots, which fouls the water and harms fish more than a missed meal ever would.
If food is left after a few minutes, net it out and feed less next time. A holiday feeder or a trusted neighbour with pre-measured portions is better than a heap of flakes before you go.
Pond fish and the seasons
Fish are cold-blooded, so their appetite follows the water temperature. In spring and autumn feed lightly; when the pond is cold in winter, many keepers stop feeding altogether until it warms again.
Floating food lets you see what is eaten and remove the rest.
Clean water is the job
The RSPCA advises regular partial water changes and testing the water. Use a gravel cleaner to lift waste from the substrate as you siphon out old water.
Treat tap water with a dechlorinator before it goes in the tank, and rinse filter media in old tank water rather than tap water so you keep the helpful bacteria.
Setting up a tank
A new aquarium needs time to build up the bacteria that break down waste before fish go in. Add fish slowly, a few at a time, and research how big each species grows.
Rinse new gravel well before use and choose ornaments made for aquariums, with no sharp edges for fish to catch on.
Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.
