Specifications

Brand: Marina

Full description

The mess of a gravel clean usually isn't the dirt, it's the gravel itself following the water out of the tank and into the bucket. Marina's gravel guard is built specifically to stop that happening, which is the difference between a clean that takes five minutes and one that involves picking gravel out of a bucket afterwards.

This is the Mini size, with a cleaning tube measuring 2.54cm (1 inch) in diameter and 25cm (10 inches) long, fitted with 1.83m (6ft) of non-kink hosing. It has a quick-start feature for a faster, easier startup than sucking on the tube by mouth, and the oval-shaped cleaning tube is designed to reach into tank corners that a round tube would miss.

Mini size: 2.54cm (1 inch) diameter cleaning tube
Tube length 25cm (10 inches)
1.83m (6ft) of non-kink hosing
Gravel guard keeps gravel in the tank, not the bucket
Quick-start feature
Oval tube shape reaches into corners

On sizing. The Mini is aimed at smaller tanks - Marina don't state a maximum tank size on this card, so if you're maintaining a larger aquarium, this may work slowly compared with a bigger gravel cleaner sized for the job.

Who it's for: owners of smaller, planted or decorated aquariums doing routine gravel cleaning at water-change time, who want a tool sized to fit into corners rather than a larger cleaner built for bigger tanks.

Marina Gravel Cleaner

Why we chose it

The gravel guard is the one feature that actually saves time and mess on this job, and it's worth paying attention to on any gravel cleaner regardless of brand. The Mini size is also genuinely useful for smaller tanks, where a full-size cleaner is often just too unwieldy to manoeuvre.
