Dog Leads

Better walks, every day.

A dog lead has one job—keep the connection secure—but the right length, handle and material change how comfortable every walk feels. Start with the way you walk, then choose the lead built for it.

Match the clip and handle to the dog

A heavier dog needs a substantial clip and enough handle padding to protect your palm. A small dog needs the opposite: a light clip that does not bounce against the shoulders. Check the product size and weight guidance rather than choosing by colour alone.

For a dog that lunges, pair the lead with a correctly fitted harness. A stronger lead prevents a break; it does not prevent a sudden load reaching the dog’s neck.

Fixed, retractable or long line?

A fixed lead gives the clearest communication in busy places. A retractable lead offers adjustable range on open paths. A long line is the training tool: clip it to a harness, let it trail where safe and reward the dog for choosing to return.

Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.

Common questions

What length dog lead is best for everyday walks?

Around 1.2 to 1.5 metres suits most pavements and busy paths. It gives room to sniff without creating a long loop around people or street furniture.

Should I attach a long lead to a collar or harness?

Use a well-fitted harness. A dog can hit the end of a long line with speed, and a harness spreads that force across the chest rather than the neck.

Are rope dog leads suitable for strong dogs?

They can be, provided the rope, stitching and clip are rated for the dog. A padded handle also matters because grip comfort becomes important during a sudden pull.
