Ancol also sell this lead in an Extra Heavy weight; this is the lighter of the two, so if your dog is a genuinely powerful puller, it's worth checking the Extra Heavy version rather than assuming Heavy is the top of the range.
Why we chose it

How to measure
- Width: lighter, narrower webbing for small dogs; wider, thicker webbing for strong pullers and larger dogs.
- Standard lead (1.2–1.5 m): everyday pavement walks and training.
- Long line (3–10 m): recall practice and open spaces.
- Short / traffic lead (under 1 m): close control in busy areas.

Some dogs need more than a light lead can offer without wearing out, and moving up a weight class in a chain lead is the straightforward fix rather than replacing a snapped fabric one every few months.
This is Ancol's Heritage Heavy Chain Lead, a step up from the standard weight, pairing chrome-plated welded steel chain with a bridle leather handle for grip and comfort. Made by Ancol's own workforce in the UK, it finishes in a trigger hook for attaching to a collar. This page covers the lead in black and tan.
