Choosing a colour

• Black — 1.2 metres is where daily walking actually happens, long enough for a dog to sniff a wall, short enough not to be gathering slack round your own feet. Black hides road dirt. Solid metal hardware and Red Dingo's five-year guarantee.
• Brown — Brown is the colour to pick if you would rather not see the walk on the lead afterwards. Mud, wet grass and the film off a dog's coat all disappear into mid-brown webbing in a way they never do on pale. Presentable in March.
• Cool Grey — Grey goes under any collar colour without clashing and stays out of the way in photographs. If your dog is in and out of mud daily, brown hides more, and I would rather say so than sell you the wrong colour.
