Switching a dog's food abruptly, even to a food that will end up suiting them better, is a common way to cause exactly the loose stools you were trying to fix - most owners get better results introducing a new diet gradually rather than overnight.

This is Burns' Sensitive Duck & Brown Rice recipe, built around a single animal protein - duck - so there's nothing else in the bowl for a food-sensitive dog to react to instead. Brown rice supplies most of the carbohydrate, alongside oats, peas, duck fat and a small amount of seaweed.

• Complete food for adult and senior dogs, built around a single animal protein
• Composition: Brown Rice 64%, Dried Duck 22%, Oats, Peas, Duck Fat, Sunflower Oil, Seaweed 0.5%, Minerals
• Protein 20%, Fat 8%, Fibre 2%, Ash 6.5%

• Omega-6 1.7%, Omega-3 0.2%
• 2KG bag

What the label does not say. Burns don't publish a recommended transition period for introducing this food, so the usual approach - mixing it in gradually with whatever the dog eats now, rather than switching overnight - is general good practice rather than something specific to this recipe. If a dog reacts badly even during a slow transition, that points to duck itself rather than the switch, and is worth mentioning to a vet.

Who it's for: adult and senior dogs starting a single-protein duck trial for the first time, where an owner wants a modest size before committing to more.
