An older dog's joints rarely announce themselves failing the way a younger dog's would — the first sign is usually just getting up more slowly from a nap — which is why a senior food built around joint-support additives works quietly in the background rather than as a visible fix.

Dried turkey protein is the only named animal protein in this recipe, alongside dried potatoes, tomato pomace and whole linseed. It is a complete grain-free food for senior dogs, and James Wellbeloved's stated approach across the range is to exclude beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat.

• Complete grain-free food for senior dogs, single named animal protein: turkey
• Protein 20.0%, fat 9.5%, crude ash 6.9%, crude fibre 3.9% — lower than several of James Wellbeloved's adult recipes, typical of a senior formulation
• Glucosamine (0.045%) and chondroitin (0.005%) included for joint support
• Omega-3 at 1.1%, omega-6 at 2.4%
• Excludes beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat
• 10KG bag

On what's actually first on the list. James Wellbeloved market this as a "Single Source Animal Protein Recipe", and turkey is genuinely the only named animal protein in it — but by weight it isn't the largest ingredient. Dried potatoes come in at 24%, ahead of the 23.5% dried turkey protein, and pea starch is listed first of all. "Single protein" describes which meat is used, not how much of the bag it makes up.

Who it's for: owners of a senior dog on a grain-free single-protein diet, particularly where joint stiffness has started to show and a vet has suggested a glucosamine-and-chondroitin recipe.
