Small dogs often live long enough that their "senior" years stretch on for longer than a large breed's whole retirement, which is exactly why a food built for both a small mouth and an older body earns a place on the shelf that a single general-purpose senior kibble doesn't cover.

Dried turkey protein leads the recipe at 26.5%, ahead of naked oats, and brown and white rice. It is a complete food for senior, small-breed dogs, and James Wellbeloved's stated approach across the range is to exclude beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat.

• Complete food for senior, small-breed dogs, built on turkey as the named protein
• Dried turkey protein 26.5% leads the recipe
• Protein 25.3%, fat 13.7%, crude ash 8.4%, crude fibre 3.0%
• Omega-3 at 1.1%, omega-6 at 3.4%
• Sized for small-breed dogs
• Available in more than one bag size

On what "senior" changes here. Nothing on this card suggests the recipe is calorie-reduced the way some senior foods are built to be — protein sits at 25.3% and fat at 13.7%, figures that are not obviously lighter than a typical adult maintenance recipe. If you're choosing this specifically to cut calories for a less active older dog, weigh these numbers against what your dog already eats rather than assuming "senior" on the label means lighter across the board.

Who it's for: senior small-breed dogs where the priority is a kibble sized for a small mouth, rather than a specifically lower-calorie recipe.
