Older dogs slow down before their owners notice, and by the time a stiff-legged trot in the morning gets put down to "just getting old", the joints involved have usually been under strain for a while already.

This is Barking Heads' senior recipe, built around chicken at 50% of the total (23% freshly prepared, 23% dried, plus chicken gravy), with rice, barley, potato and oats making up most of the rest. Fat sits at 10%, a moderate figure for a dry dog food, and glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate and beta glucans are included as standard rather than sold separately.

• Chicken 50% (23% freshly prepared, 23% dried, plus gravy)
• Protein 25%, fat 10%, fibre 3.5%, ash 7%, 352 kcal/100g
• Glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate and beta glucans included
• Rice, barley and oats - not a grain-free recipe
• Formulated for senior dogs
• 12kg bag

On grain. This is not a grain-free recipe - rice, barley and oats are all in the composition - so if your senior dog is on a grain-free diet for reasons other than simply being older, check the ingredient list before switching to this one.

Who it's for: owners of senior dogs who want a joint-support recipe at a lower fat level than a general adult food, without needing it to be grain-free as well.
