James Wellbeloved Senior Dry Dog Food Lamb & Rice

Lamb is a less commonly used protein than chicken or beef, which is exactly why it tends to come up as an option once a dog has already reacted to the more usual choices - a genuinely new protein a dog has less chance of having built up a sensitivity to. James Wellbeloved's senior lamb recipe uses it right through, not just as a headline ingredient.

Lamb meal makes up 19.1% of the recipe, with lamb gravy at 2.9% and lamb fat at 2.4% doing the flavour and fat work rather than a separate poultry fat, alongside brown rice at 26.9%, barley and white rice at 18.6%. Protein comes out at 18.5%, fat at 9.2%, crude ash at 7.8% and crude fibre at 3.5%, with vitamin E at 400mg/kg, omega-3 at 1% and glucosamine at 0.045%.

On the protein level. At 18.5%, protein is on the lower side, which fits a senior formulation for an older dog with reduced activity - but if your senior dog is still very active or working, it is worth checking with a vet whether this level suits their actual needs rather than their age alone.
