Vitalin senior dog food
Vitalin does make a Senior/Lite recipe, but it isn't one of the Vitalin lines we carry. What we do stock is Vitalin's adult, small breed adult and puppy recipes, made in the UK with British ingredients, and several of these suit a healthy older dog perfectly well without needing a dedicated senior formula.
What Vitalin actually makes
Vitalin is a UK dog food brand using British-sourced meat and vegetables, built around straightforward recipes such as chicken with thyme and root vegetables, and lamb with mint. The brand includes joint-supporting ingredients like glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM alongside prebiotics for gut health across much of its range, which are relevant to an older dog even outside a dedicated senior product.
The wider Vitalin range does include a Senior/Lite recipe aimed at older or less active dogs, formulated with reduced calories and continued joint support. It is a genuine part of the brand's line-up, just not one we currently carry.
What suits an older dog from what we stock
A healthy senior dog with no specific weight or mobility issue often does perfectly well continuing on a standard adult recipe, particularly one that already includes joint support ingredients as standard, which several Vitalin adult recipes do. What actually needs adjusting for most ageing dogs is the amount fed, since activity typically drops with age even when appetite does not.
If your dog has put on weight since becoming less active, or has a diagnosed joint condition, that is worth discussing with your vet, who may recommend a specific senior or weight management food, whether from Vitalin's wider range or elsewhere.
Choosing from what we have
Of the Vitalin recipes we stock, the standard adult chicken or lamb recipes are a reasonable everyday choice for a senior dog in good general health, watched for weight and adjusted in portion as needed. If a dedicated senior formula, from Vitalin or another brand, is what you specifically want, our general senior dog food range covers that need directly.
There is nothing wrong with keeping an older dog on a well-suited adult recipe rather than switching purely because of a birthday. What matters is how your individual dog is doing on it: stable weight, good energy and no digestive issues are a better guide than the word “senior” on the front of a bag.

Common questions
- Do you sell Vitalin Senior?
- Vitalin does make a Senior/Lite recipe, but it isn't one of the Vitalin lines we carry. We stock the brand's adult, small breed adult and puppy recipes instead.
- Can an older dog eat a standard Vitalin adult recipe?
- Yes, for many healthy older dogs a standard adult recipe with joint support ingredients works well, with the daily amount adjusted down if activity has dropped. A dog with a specific health condition should be guided by your vet's recommendation rather than a general adult food.
- Does Vitalin adult food contain joint support ingredients?
- Yes, much of the range includes glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM alongside prebiotics for gut health, which are genuinely relevant to an ageing dog's joints even without a dedicated senior label.
- What should I feed my senior dog if I want a dedicated senior formula?
- Our senior dog food range covers a number of brands with recipes specifically formulated for older dogs, including reduced calorie and joint-support options, if a dedicated senior product is what you are after.
