The same single-source principle that helps a younger dog with a suspected sensitivity works just as well for an older one - a senior dog's digestive system can start reacting to things it tolerated fine for years, and a simple, single-protein recipe is one of the easier changes to make without disrupting everything else about its diet.

Brown rice leads this recipe at 26%, with dried turkey protein at 17.5%, naked oats, barley, white rice at 10%, whole linseed at 4% and turkey gravy. Small named additions include nettles and parsley, plus glucosamine at 0.045% and chondroitin at 0.005%. Protein comes out at 20.4%, fat at 9.3%, crude ash at 6.3% and crude fibre at 3.8%, with vitamin E at 350mg/kg.

• Single named animal protein: dried turkey (17.5%)
• Protein 20.4%, fat 9.3%, crude ash 6.3%, crude fibre 3.8%
• Glucosamine 0.045% and chondroitin 0.005% added
• Formulated for senior dogs
• Vitamin E at 350mg/kg
• 15kg bag

On the joint-support additions. Glucosamine and chondroitin are both present here, but at very small percentages - 0.045% and 0.005% respectively - so this is a food with a joint-support ingredient included rather than a therapeutic joint supplement in its own right. A dog with a diagnosed joint condition may still need a dedicated supplement alongside it.

Who it's for: owners of a senior dog, particularly one showing a new sensitivity to more common proteins, who want turkey as a single named source alongside modest joint support.
