Iams dog and cat food feeding guide

Iams make complete dry foods across puppy, adult and senior dog formulas, as well as a cat range, and each pack carries its own feeding guide based on your pet's weight and life stage. We stock a selection from the range, and the method for using any feeding guide properly matters more than the exact numbers on any one pack.

How to use the feeding guide on the pack

Every Iams bag carries a feeding chart based on your dog or cat's current weight, usually with a range for their life stage - puppy or kitten, adult, or senior. Weigh your pet rather than guessing, use the chart as your starting point, and split the daily total across two or more meals rather than one large one, which most dogs and cats do better on.

The chart is a starting point rather than a fixed rule. Body condition - whether you can easily feel ribs without seeing them, and whether your pet has a visible waist from above - tells you more about whether the amount is right than sticking rigidly to the printed figure. Adjust gradually up or down based on that, and check in with your vet if you are ever unsure or your pet's weight is trending the wrong way.

What we stock from the range

Our dog range includes Iams for Vitality puppy formulas, such as their Puppy Small & Medium Breed recipe with fresh chicken, alongside their Advanced Nutrition adult and senior lines. On the cat side, we carry adult and senior dry formulas including chicken and ocean fish recipes, and a small number of wet options.

What is shown on the range page reflects what is currently available to order rather than the brand's complete catalogue, since that changes as stock does. If you are moving your pet onto or off an Iams formula, introduce the change gradually over a week or so alongside whatever they are already eating.

Common questions

How much Iams food should I feed my dog?
Use the feeding chart printed on the specific pack, based on your dog's current weight and life stage, as your starting point, then adjust based on body condition rather than following the number rigidly. If you are unsure whether your dog is over or underweight, ask your vet at a routine check-up.
Do you stock the whole Iams range?
No, we stock a selection across puppy, adult and senior dog formulas and a smaller cat range, rather than the brand's entire catalogue. What is currently available to order is shown on the range page and can change as stock does.
How do I switch my dog onto an Iams food?
Introduce it gradually over roughly a week, mixing in increasing amounts alongside whatever your dog currently eats rather than switching all at once. A sudden full switch is one of the more common causes of a temporary upset stomach in an otherwise healthy dog.
Is Iams suitable for a dog with a sensitive stomach?
Some dogs do well on it, but it is not marketed as a specialist sensitive-stomach range in the way some other brands are. If your dog has ongoing digestive issues, a single-protein, limited-ingredient food is usually a better starting point, and it is worth discussing with your vet either way.
