Neutering a dog doesn't shrink its appetite to match its new, slightly lower energy need — most owners keep filling the same bowl, which is usually where the weight starts.

This IAMS Light-in-fat recipe is aimed at exactly that: fat is set at 10%, which IAMS state is 30% lower than their standard small/medium breed adult chicken recipe. It's built on dried chicken and turkey at 17% (10% named as chicken) plus fresh chicken at 10%, with L-carnitine added to support fat metabolism, and protein at 20% — also lower than a standard adult recipe, in line with a less active dog's needs.

• 2kg bag, dry food for weight loss/control, suitable for neutered dogs
• Dried chicken and turkey 17% (10% named as chicken); fresh chicken 10%
• Protein 20%, fat 10%, crude fibre 2.8%, crude ash 5.3%
• L-carnitine included, to support fat metabolism
• 30% less fat than IAMS' standard small/medium breed adult chicken recipe
• IAMS' own feeding table split by target weight and by reduction or maintenance

On the numbers. IAMS market '69% animal protein' here, again as a share of total protein rather than of the whole recipe — worth knowing since it's a noticeably lower headline figure than their standard adult recipes, precisely because this one is built to be lower in protein and fat, not because anything's missing.

Who it's for: owners of a neutered or overweight adult dog whose exercise or activity has dropped, wanting a lower-fat recipe with L-carnitine rather than simply feeding less of a higher-fat food.
