Full description

Owners chasing a food to help with itchy skin or a dull coat often reach for a 'different' protein like lamb, assuming a full switch away from chicken — worth knowing before you buy that isn't always what's in the bag.

This IAMS Advanced Nutrition recipe for small and medium breed adult dogs lists dried chicken and turkey at 29% (18% named as chicken), with lamb making up 4% of the composition. Protein comes out at 26%, fat 15%, and the recipe includes IAMS' DentalCare System along with an antioxidant blend of vitamin E and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids for skin and coat.

2kg bag, dry food for small and medium breed adult dogs (1+ years)
Dried chicken and turkey 29% (18% named as chicken); lamb 4%
Protein 26%, fat 15%, crude fibre 2.6%, crude ash 6.7%
DentalCare System kibble, aimed at reducing tartar
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, for skin and coat
Wheat-free recipe (produced in a factory that also handles wheat)

On the name. Lamb is 4% of this recipe; dried chicken and turkey at 29% is the larger protein source. If a vet has suggested trying your dog on a diet without chicken, this recipe still contains it — the 'Lamb' on the front names the flavour; it is not a chicken-free formula.

Who it's for: owners of a small or medium adult dog who like the lamb flavour, rather than anyone specifically trying to avoid chicken in their dog's diet.

Why we chose it

The same honesty applies here as with the cat version of this recipe — lamb is a flavour note, not the main protein, and we'd rather a customer knew that from us than found out from the composition list at home. It's still a DentalCare recipe with named omega levels, which is worth stocking on its own merits.
