Tartar builds up on a dog's teeth long before an owner notices anything beyond bad breath, which is why some dry foods are shaped and mineralised specifically to work at it as the dog chews.

This IAMS Advanced Nutrition recipe is formulated for large-breed adult dogs, 1 year and up, and built around dried chicken and turkey at 22% (13% named as chicken), with a further 10% fresh chicken. Protein sits at 23%, fat at 13%, and IAMS' DentalCare System uses the kibble's texture and mineral levels specifically to help reduce tartar as the dog chews. An antioxidant blend with vitamin E is included to support the immune system, and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are present for skin and coat. It's available in more than one bag size, and IAMS' own feeding table runs from 330g a day for a 25kg dog up to 865g for a 90kg dog.

On the percentage claims. IAMS' own marketing states '77% animal protein', but that's out of total protein, not a share of the whole recipe by weight — the composition itself lists dried chicken and turkey at only 22%. Both numbers are true; they're just answering different questions.

Who it's for: owners of a large-breed adult dog wanting a dental-care-focused kibble with stated antioxidant and omega levels, in whichever bag size suits how much your dog eats.
