Iams
Iams is a long-established complete dry food brand covering dogs and cats across puppy or kitten, adult and senior life stages, built around named meat proteins like chicken. We stock a selection from the wider Iams range — what is shown in the grid above reflects the recipes we currently have available, chosen mainly for the everyday, mid-market end of the brand's catalogue.
What Iams actually is
Iams sits in the mainstream, widely available part of the complete pet food market — not a budget economy brand, but not a specialist raw or grain-free label either. Recipes are generally built around one named meat as the main protein, with life-stage-specific formulas for puppies and kittens, adults, and seniors.
The brand has a long history in complete dry food specifically, which is reflected in a fairly conventional range: dry kibble sized differently for small and larger dogs, and separate formulas for indoor cats, kittens and older cats, rather than a single food marketed as suitable for every stage of life.
What we stock, and how to choose
Our range includes Iams dry food for dogs and cats across several life stages, from puppy and kitten formulas through to adult and senior recipes. The grid above shows what is currently in stock, and it is worth checking your pet's current age and any stated breed size guidance on the pack before ordering, since Iams splits several of its ranges by size as well as life stage.
If you are switching from a different brand, do it gradually over a week or so, increasing the new food and reducing the old each day, rather than swapping bowls overnight — a sudden change in protein source and fibre content is the most common cause of a short-lived stomach upset when moving between any two complete foods.
Who this range suits
Iams suits an owner who wants a straightforward, widely recognised complete food at a mid-market price, rather than one chasing a specific grain-free, raw or single-protein hypoallergenic diet. The life-stage formulas make it a reasonably simple choice if you want one brand to follow a pet from puppy or kitten through to their senior years.
As with any food, whether a particular Iams recipe genuinely suits your dog or cat comes down to their individual age, size and any known sensitivities, rather than the brand name on the bag. A pet with a diagnosed condition or a known food sensitivity should be fed what your vet has actually recommended.

Common questions
- Is Iams a good brand of dog and cat food?
- Iams is a widely available, mid-market complete food brand rather than a budget or a specialist premium one. Whether it suits your particular dog or cat depends on their age, size and any sensitivities, the same as with any food brand you are choosing between.
- Does Giddy Pets stock the full Iams range?
- No. We stock a selection of Iams dry food across puppy, kitten, adult and senior formulas rather than the brand's entire catalogue. What is shown in the grid above reflects what we currently have available to order.
- Can I feed Iams to both my dog and my cat?
- Iams makes separate ranges for dogs and cats and they are not interchangeable — a cat needs nutrients, including more protein and taurine, that a dog food is not formulated to provide, and the reverse is also true. Always feed the species the food is actually made for.
- How do I switch my pet onto Iams from another food?
- Introduce it gradually over about a week, mixing in a little more of the new food and a little less of the old one each day rather than swapping overnight. This gives the gut time to adjust and makes an upset stomach far less likely than an abrupt change.
