Skin and stomach sensitivities in dogs often come down to the same handful of common triggers, which is why a recipe built around one named meat and a grain-free carbohydrate is a common starting point rather than trial and error across a dozen different foods.

Simpsons' Sensitive recipe is built on a minimum 45% lamb — dried lamb, deboned lamb and lamb fat — with potato at a minimum 26%, plus beet pulp, brewer's yeast, dried egg, salmon oil and added glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin. Protein sits at 25%, oil 14%, fibre 3.5% and ash 11%, with calcium at 2.09% and phosphorus at 1.14%.

• 2kg or 12kg bag, grain-free dry food
• Lamb minimum 45%, potato minimum 26%
• Protein 25%, oil 14%, fibre 3.5%, ash 11%
• Omega-6 2.95%, omega-3 1.72%
• Also suitable for juniors that cannot tolerate grain diets
• Naturally preserved with mixed tocopherols

What the label does not say. Simpsons market this as suited to dogs with sensitive skin or digestion, but that is a general positioning rather than a guarantee for any specific dog's allergy or intolerance — a persistent skin or digestive problem is one for a vet to investigate properly, not to solve by food alone. No exact ratio between lamb protein and the joint-support additions is given beyond what's listed here.

Who it's for: owners of an adult dog — or a junior unable to tolerate grain — with a sensitive stomach or skin, looking for a single-named-protein, grain-free recipe.
