A dog with a food sensitivity does not need a fancier diet, it needs a simpler one — fewer ingredients that could be the culprit, and one clear protein source rather than a recipe with three or four meats stacked together.

This James Wellbeloved recipe is built around dried turkey protein (24%) as its single animal protein, alongside naked oats, brown rice (13%) and white rice (13%), whole linseed (3.9%), poultry fat, sugar beet pulp, turkey gravy, alfalfa meal, pea fibre, seaweed (0.5%), fish oil, chicory extract (0.1%) and yucca extract (0.02%). It is formulated to exclude the ingredients most commonly linked to sensitivities — beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat — rather than simply being a turkey-flavoured version of a standard recipe.

• Protein 24.3%, fat content 11.1%, crude ash 8.0%, crude fibre 3.0%
• Omega-3 fatty acids 1.1%, omega-6 fatty acids 2.8%
• Energy 356 kcal per 100g
• Single source animal protein: turkey
• Excludes beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat
• 7.5kg or 15kg sack

On "hypoallergenic." No dog food can guarantee a dog won't react to it — hypoallergenic here means the recipe is built to exclude the most commonly implicated ingredients and use one protein source, not that a reaction is impossible. If your dog has a diagnosed sensitivity, that's a conversation for your vet before you switch foods, not something a bag can settle on its own.

Who it's for: owners of an adult dog with a suspected sensitivity to a common protein or to wheat, who want a single-protein recipe with the usual suspects left out rather than a standard multi-meat food.
