The tie-out cable and stake
A tie-out cable gives a dog room to move around a garden, campsite or outdoor space while staying anchored to one point, which suits a dog who is reliable off a fixed line but not yet trusted fully off-lead. The stake screws into the ground to anchor the cable, and how secure it holds depends heavily on the ground it is driven into — soft, dry soil holds far less firmly than damp turf.
Never leave a dog unattended on a tie-out, and check the clip and swivel point occasionally for wear, the same as you would with any lead left attached and under tension. A tie-out is a tool for supervised time outdoors, not a substitute for a securely fenced space.
The travel water bottle
A dedicated travel bottle with a built-in drinking trough makes offering water on a walk or a journey considerably less messy than trying to pour from a normal bottle into a bowl. It is worth having in the car for warm-weather walks in particular, when a dog needs more frequent water breaks than usual.
Rinse it out regularly rather than only when it looks dirty, since a bottle that sits half-full in a warm car for days is exactly the kind of place bacteria builds up unnoticed.

Common questions
- Is it safe to leave my dog on a tie-out unattended?
- No, a tie-out should only be used while you are present and able to supervise. It gives a dog room to move around a fixed point, but it is not a secure containment method to leave a dog on alone.
- How do I know if the ground stake will hold?
- It depends on the ground — damp, compact soil holds a stake far more securely than loose, dry or sandy ground. Test it with firm pressure before trusting it with your dog attached, and never leave a dog unsupervised on it regardless.
- Can I use the travel water bottle for cats too?
- It is designed with dogs in mind and sized accordingly, but the basic idea — a bottle with a built-in trough — works for any pet you might want to offer water to on the move, cats included, if they will drink from it.
- How often should I clean a travel water bottle?
- Rinse it out after every trip rather than waiting until it looks obviously dirty, particularly if it has sat warm in a car. A bottle that is topped up without being properly emptied and rinsed can build up residue over time.
- What ground works best for a tie-out stake?
- Damp, compact grass or soil holds a stake far more securely than loose, sandy or very dry ground. Push and pull it firmly by hand before trusting it with your dog attached, and reposition it if it comes loose easily.
