Petsolve spot-on treatments
Petsolve makes spot-on parasite treatments aimed specifically at small animals and pet birds — a part of the market that general flea and worm ranges, built mainly around dogs and cats, tend to overlook. If you keep a hamster, rabbit or pet bird, this is a more targeted option than reaching for something formulated for a cat.
What we stock
We carry four Petsolve products: a spot-on for pet birds applied to the skin at the back of the neck, a small-animal spot-on sold as a pack of five, a spot-on specifically for hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats over 50g against mites, lice and worms, and a mange treatment for rabbits, guinea pigs and rats.
Each one targets a specific species group and parasite type rather than being a single all-purpose treatment, which matters because small animals and birds vary hugely in size and sensitivity — a treatment scaled for a rabbit is not automatically right for a mouse.
Using these treatments responsibly
Always check the product is suitable for your specific animal's species and weight before applying anything, and follow the pack instructions exactly rather than estimating a dose. Weight thresholds matter more with small animals than they do with dogs, simply because there's so much less margin for error.
If your pet is unwell, pregnant, very young, or you're at all unsure whether a treatment is appropriate, speak to your vet before using it. A spot-on treatment isn't a substitute for a vet's advice if something seems genuinely wrong rather than routine parasite prevention.

Common questions
- Can I use a bird spot-on treatment on a small mammal?
- No — these products are formulated for a specific species group and shouldn't be swapped between them. Use the Petsolve bird spot-on only for birds, and the small-animal or rodent-specific products only for the species they're labelled for.
- Is the small rodent spot-on suitable for very young animals?
- The rodent spot-on is labelled for hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats over 50g, so weigh your pet before use rather than guessing by age or size. If your animal is underweight or unwell, check with your vet before treating.
- What does the mange treatment actually treat?
- It's a spot-on for mange in rabbits, guinea pigs and rats, applied to the skin. Mange can look similar to other skin conditions, so if you're not certain that's what you're dealing with, it's worth a vet check before starting any treatment.
- How often do spot-on treatments need repeating?
- This varies by product and the parasite it targets, and the correct interval is printed on the pack rather than being the same across the range. Stick to that schedule rather than a general rule of thumb, and don't apply a second dose early just because you're not sure the first one worked.
- Can I use a Petsolve treatment as a general precaution even if I haven't seen any parasites?
- Some owners do use these routinely as prevention, but it's worth checking the product's intended use first, since not every spot-on in the range is designed for ongoing preventative use in the same way. If you're unsure, your vet can advise on a sensible routine for your specific pet.
