Older dogs can go off a food for no clinical reason at all — sometimes it really is just that the same bag has been on the shelf for years and a dog's taste, like a person's, drifts. Lamb is one of the few proteins in James Wellbeloved's senior range that isn't also sold as the everyday recipe, which makes it worth trying if a longtime turkey or chicken eater has started leaving food in the bowl.

Dried lamb protein is the only named animal protein here, at 23.5% of the mix, ahead of dried potatoes at 22.6% and tomato pomace. It is a complete grain-free food for senior dogs, and James Wellbeloved's stated approach across the range is to exclude beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat.
