A long ingredient list is easy to write and hard to check, which is presumably the appeal of a food that names exactly six ingredients and stops there — fewer things to add up, and fewer places for a filler to hide.

Harringtons' Just 6 recipe is over 50% salmon, made up of freshly prepared salmon (23%), dried salmon (23%), freshly prepared salmon oil (2.5%) and freshly prepared salmon jus (2%), alongside dried potato (19%), sweet potato (17%), peas (11.5%) and rapeseed oil (1%). It's grain free.

• Six named ingredients, salmon-led at over 50%
• Grain free
• Freshly prepared salmon, dried salmon, salmon oil and salmon jus all named separately
• Fat content 2.5%
• 2KG bag

One thing worth knowing. Only the fat content (2.5%) has been declared to us for this recipe — the protein, crude fibre and ash figures that usually sit alongside it on a bag haven't been supplied, so we can't give you the full analytical panel some other foods on this site carry.

Who it's for: owners who want a short, named ingredient list they can actually read in full, built around a single fish protein rather than a longer list of meats and meals.
