Botanical sprays occupy an honest middle ground, and anyone selling one as a flea treatment is misleading you. What a lemongrass, peppermint and eucalyptus mist does is make your pet's coat a less appealing place to land, which has its uses before a walk through long grass, or as one part of a routine that already includes a proper veterinary product doing the real work.
The oils go on as a fine mist over the coat and are best worked in with a brush, so that the spray lands on hair rather than pooling against skin. That fits naturally into grooming: a few pumps while you are brushing anyway, which is also the moment you would spot flea dirt if there were any to spot. The scent is sharp at first and settles quickly. Keep it away from the face and eyes, and mist the coat rather than soaking it.
