Who makes Nylabone?

Nylabone is a long-running American pet products brand, first known for inventing the durable nylon dog bone in the 1950s. The brand today sits within Central Garden & Pet, a US pet and garden products group that also owns a number of other well-known pet brands, and Nylabone remains focused on durable chews and dental products for dogs.

The brand and what it's known for

Nylabone built its name on hard, long-lasting chews designed to survive persistent chewers far better than a rawhide or a soft toy would, and that durability focus has stayed central to the brand ever since. Alongside the classic nylon bones, the range has grown to include dental chews shaped to help clean teeth as a dog gnaws, and puppy-specific products sized and textured for developing jaws and teething gums.

It is a chew-toy and dental-care brand rather than a food brand, which puts it in a different part of the shop to most of the names you will see on a bag of kibble.

What we stock, and who it suits

Our Nylabone range includes classic long-lasting chews in flavours like bacon and chicken, dental-focused chews aimed at everyday tooth cleaning, and puppy items such as teething keys and starter kits sized for young mouths. What is shown above is what we currently have available to order, and the exact range can shift as stock does.

It suits dogs who are keen, persistent chewers and owners looking for something more durable than a soft toy for that kind of dog, as well as puppy owners wanting something appropriately sized and textured for a teething stage. As with any chew, size it correctly for your dog and supervise them with anything new.

Choosing the right size and hardness

Nylabone chews are sized and rated by dog weight and jaw strength, and sizing up rather than down is the safer default — a chew small enough for your dog to get most of it in their mouth at once is more of a swallowing risk than one that is clearly too big to manage that way.

As with any hard chew, check it regularly for wear and replace it once it looks worn down, cracked or small enough to be swallowed whole, and supervise a dog trying a new chew type for the first time rather than leaving them with it unattended straight away.

Common questions

Is Nylabone a good brand for heavy chewers?
It has built its reputation specifically around durability for persistent chewers, which is the main reason owners of dogs that destroy softer toys quickly reach for it. As with any chew, still pick the size and hardness appropriate for your individual dog and supervise the first few uses.
Does Nylabone make dog food?
No. Nylabone is a chew and dental products brand, not a food brand, so you won't find complete dog food under this name — its range covers durable chews, dental chews and puppy teething products.
Are Nylabone chews suitable for puppies?
Nylabone makes puppy-specific items, including teething keys and starter kits, sized and textured differently to the adult range for developing jaws. Choose the puppy-labelled products rather than an adult chew for a young dog still teething.
