Is Pro Plan good for dogs?

Pro Plan can be a good, complete choice for many dogs — it is a widely available range with formulas built around specific life stages, sizes and needs rather than one single recipe. Whether it suits your dog specifically comes down to their age, size and any sensitivities, the same as with any brand.

What Pro Plan is

Pro Plan is a mainstream complete dry dog food range covering puppies through to adult and senior dogs, with formulas split by size — small and medium breeds against large, athletic breeds — and by need, including sensitive skin recipes built around a named protein.

That range of formulas is the main thing worth knowing about the brand: 'Pro Plan' is not one recipe, it is a family of them, so the honest answer to whether it is good depends on which formula and whether it matches your dog's stage of life.

What we stock, and who it suits

Our range includes Pro Plan's Everyday Nutrition adult formulas in chicken, turkey and fish, a Puppy Healthy Start formula for medium breeds, a Sensitive Skin recipe for medium adult dogs, and a Large Athletic formula for bigger, more active dogs. We stock a selection from the wider range rather than every Pro Plan product, and what is shown above is what is currently available to order.

This tends to suit owners who want a mainstream, widely stocked complete food matched to their dog's specific life stage and size, rather than a boutique or single-protein diet. As with any food, watch how your dog does on it over the first few weeks and speak to your vet if anything changes.

Common questions

Is Pro Plan a premium dog food?
Pro Plan sits in the mainstream, widely available part of the market rather than the boutique end, with formulas aimed at specific life stages and needs. It is a reasonable everyday choice for many dogs, but 'premium' is a marketing term rather than a guarantee of fit for your particular dog.
Does Giddy Pets stock the whole Pro Plan range?
No. We stock a selection from the range rather than every recipe Pro Plan makes, and that selection can change as stock does. What is shown in the grid above is what we currently have available to order.
Which Pro Plan formula should I choose for my dog?
Match the formula to your dog's life stage and size first — puppy, adult or senior, and small/medium against large breed — then consider a sensitive skin formula if your dog has a known sensitivity. If you are unsure, your vet can advise on what your dog's stage and health mean for the choice.
What if my dog doesn't get on with a new food?
Introduce any new food gradually alongside what they are already eating, over several days rather than swapping overnight, and watch their stools and appetite. If your dog seems unwell or the change does not settle, speak to your vet rather than persisting with it.
