A medium-breed puppy sits in the awkward middle of the puppy-food aisle: too big for small-breed portions, too small for the large-breed joint-support formulas, and often just fed whichever bag was already on the shelf.

Chicken (20%) leads the composition, alongside dried poultry protein, wheat, soya meal, animal fats and rice (8%). Protein comes out at 30%, fat at 19%, crude ash at 7.5% and crude fibre at 2%, at 405 kcal per 100g. Purina's feeding table runs from 6-9 weeks through 12-24 months, built specifically for medium-breed puppies with an expected adult weight of 10-70kg, and it's also suitable for gestating or lactating mothers.

On the weight range. A 10-70kg "medium" band is wide enough to cover most non-giant breeds, so it's worth checking the actual feeding table against your puppy's expected adult weight rather than assuming "medium" alone tells you the right daily amount.

Who it's for: owners of a medium-breed puppy who want a feeding plan built around that middle ground, rather than a small-breed or large-breed formula either side of it.
