Pro Plan 1+adult Dog Everyday Nutrition Medium Breed Chicken

Most dog foods are formulated around a generic adult dog rather than the size of dog actually eating them, which is why a feeding table that only gives one column tends to be wrong for everybody at both ends. Purina Pro Plan's Medium Adult recipe is built specifically for medium breeds, with a bodyweight feeding table that runs from 1kg dogs right up to 70kg.

The recipe leads with chicken at 20%, backed by dehydrated poultry protein, with wheat, maize and rice (7%) making up the carbohydrate base, and animal fat, dried beet pulp, soya meal, maize gluten meal, dried egg and fish oil filling out the rest. Crude protein comes out at 26%, fat content 16%, crude ash 7.5% and crude fibre 2.5%. It contains wheat and other cereals throughout, so this is not a grain-free formula.

What the label does not say. There is no energy value published for this recipe on the pack, which matters if you are trying to work out an exact daily amount rather than reading it off Purina's weight table. It is also not a grain-free food — wheat, maize and rice all appear before the animal proteins that follow them in the list.
