What's in Forthglade dog food
Forthglade is a UK wet dog food brand built around natural ingredients, with recipes free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, and the range covers complete meals, British Classics-style dishes and treats rather than a single fixed formula. What is actually in a given product varies by recipe, so it is worth reading the specific one you are considering rather than assuming the whole range is identical.
What runs through the range
Forthglade's recipes are generally built around a named meat — chicken, turkey, lamb or fish among them — combined with vegetables such as sweet potato, and many are presented as grain-free. The range includes straightforward complete meals as well as a British Classics line styled after familiar dishes like a lamb shepherd's pie, and separate topper products meant to be added to an existing meal rather than fed alone.
Treats in the range include soft bite options made with plant-based ingredients like banana and honey, aimed at a more natural-style treat than a traditional biscuit.
Reading a specific recipe properly
Because the range spans complete meals, toppers and treats, checking whether a specific product is a complete food or a complementary one matters — a topper is meant to be fed alongside a dog's normal food, not as the entire meal, and using it that way would not meet a dog's full nutritional needs on its own.
As with any food, check the ingredients list and the complete-or-complementary statement on the specific product you are buying, and speak to your vet before making any significant diet change, particularly for a puppy, a senior dog, or a dog with a known health condition.
We stock a selection from the wider Forthglade range rather than every product the brand makes, and what is available to order can change as stock does. What is shown in the grid above reflects what we currently carry.

Common questions
- Does Forthglade dog food contain grain?
- Several recipes in the range are grain-free, but not necessarily all of them, so check the specific product's ingredients list rather than assuming the whole range follows one formula. Grain-free does not automatically mean lower in carbohydrate either, since a starch substitute usually replaces it.
- Are Forthglade toppers a complete meal?
- No, toppers are designed to be added to a dog's existing meal rather than fed as a standalone complete food. Check the packaging for a complete-or-complementary statement before relying on any single product as your dog's whole diet.
- What makes Forthglade different from a standard wet dog food?
- The brand's recipes are built around natural ingredients with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and the range includes a broader mix of formats — complete meals, British Classics-style dishes, toppers and treats — than a typical single-format wet food line.
- Is Forthglade suitable for puppies?
- The range includes recipes aimed at different life stages, so check the specific product for its intended age group rather than assuming every recipe suits a puppy. Speak to your vet before making any significant diet change for a growing puppy.
