Most wet dog food names one meat and quietly puts more effort into cereals, gravy and minerals than the label suggests — so a recipe that actually leads with a large, named meat percentage is worth noticing rather than reading past.

This is Forthglade's grain-free tray: Beef at 75%, alongside sweet potato, carrots, peas, minerals, linseed oil, dried seaweed, a herb blend of camomile, parsley, rosemary and nettle, chicory root extract, glucosamine, chondroitin and yucca extract. It's explicitly grain free, and the analysis gives crude protein 9.8%, crude fat 4%, crude fibre 0.2%, crude ash 2.5% and moisture 78%. Added vitamins and trace elements include Vitamin A, D3 and E, plus zinc, iron, copper and iodine.

On the analysis. At 78% moisture, the crude protein figure of 9.8% is measured on the whole wet weight, not on a dry-matter basis, so it isn't directly comparable to a dry kibble's protein percentage. The 75% named beef content is the more useful number for judging what's actually in the tray.

Who it's for: owners of adult dogs looking for a grain-free wet tray where the headline meat is genuinely the bulk ingredient, not a flavour note on a cereal-based recipe.
