Skinner's Field & Trial
Skinner's Field & Trial is a working-dog food range covering dry kibble, wet tetra-pack meals and treats, and we carry a genuine cross-section of it — puppy and adult recipes, grain-free options and the BTBO wet range in chicken, lamb, salmon and puppy formulas. It's built for dogs that are active and hungry rather than sedentary.
You might also want to browse natural chews for dogs, puzzle and enrichment toys and slow feeder dog bowls.
The dry range
The dry side covers puppy and junior formulas through to adult maintenance and grain-free recipes, including a hypoallergenic salmon and rice option for dogs that don't do well on more common proteins. It's built with a working or high-energy dog in mind rather than a lap dog, though nothing stops a less active dog eating it too.
Because the range spans life stages and a couple of different protein bases, it's worth checking the bag for the life stage and any grain-free labelling before ordering, rather than assuming every Field & Trial bag is interchangeable with the next.
The BTBO wet range
BTBO is Skinner's tetra-pack wet food line, sold in 390g cartons rather than tins, in chicken and vegetable, lamb and vegetable, salmon and vegetable, and a puppy/junior recipe. Each is a complete food rather than a topper, so it can be fed on its own or mixed with the dry range.
The carton format is worth knowing about if you're used to tins — it doesn't need a tin opener and an opened carton reseals more easily than a tin does, which matters if you're feeding a smaller dog who doesn't finish a whole one in a sitting.
Treats and who it suits
Alongside the food, the range includes dental and digestive treats, joint and conditioning treats, and cognitive training treats, so it's possible to feed the whole range rather than just the main meal from one brand.
Field & Trial suits owners of working or high-drive dogs who want a straightforward, no-frills food without designer branding, as much as anyone simply looking for a reliable everyday recipe with a bit of range to choose from.

Common questions
- What does BTBO mean on Skinner's Field & Trial packaging?
- BTBO is Skinner's own name for their tetra-pack wet food line — the 390g cartons of chicken, lamb, salmon and puppy recipes rather than tinned food. It isn't a separate brand, just the wet side of the same Field & Trial range.
- Is Field & Trial only suitable for working dogs?
- No. It's formulated with active, working dogs in mind, but there's nothing in the recipes that makes it unsuitable for a less active pet dog — check the calorie content against how much exercise your dog actually gets.
- Can I mix the dry and wet Field & Trial ranges?
- Yes, both the dry kibble and the BTBO wet cartons are sold as complete foods, so they can be fed together or on their own without one needing to top up the other.
- Does Field & Trial make a grain-free option?
- Yes, there are grain-free recipes in the dry range alongside the standard formulas, including a hypoallergenic salmon and rice option for dogs that react to more common proteins — check the specific bag for the recipe you need.
